Eco ComfyBed, the manufacturer of the truly green bedding for horses, has been selected by The Metropolitan Police as their horse bedding supplier for all of their mounted police branches within the London area, including the training centre at Imber Court.
The Met’s Mounted Branch was founded in 1760 and now has more than 140 officers and 120 horses based at eight operational stables across London.
They currently use over 1500 bales of horse bedding per month. Their main selection criteria was that the horse bedding be truly dust free, a main problem facing the health of both horses and grooms, due to the often confined spaces used to stable the horses in the metropolitan area.
ComfyBed met this criteria and more, as it is also easy to muck out and drains well which helps to improve hoof condition. ComfyBed offers a huge saving to multiple yards, as it very economical and does not require constant replenishing. The muck heap breaks down into a biodegradable mulch approved by the Organic Farmers & Growers Association.
After a trail of the bedding and a visit to the ComfyBed operation near Bournemouth by Inspector French of the Mounted Division, the horse bedding was selected. ComfyBed will be delivered to the individual yards by Frosbury Farm Feeds who are contracted to do so until 2014.
The deal has been hailed as “a real breakthrough” by Justin Dampney, Eco’s Business Development Manager, who only launched the company’s equestrian products last year.
“There can be few more prestigious, or high-profile, users of horse bedding than the Met’s Mounted Branch which is known across the world through its handling of ceremonial and diplomatic events,” he said.
Inspector French said of the choice of ComfyBed as the suppler ‘We were more than happy to be using Eco ComfyBed who, when you consider the criteria and the savings we’ve made were the outstanding candidates.”
