Horse bedding specialist, Eco ComfyBed won the ‘Quality Product of the Year’ category at the Wood Recycling Awards, the first to be held by the Wood Recyclers’ Association.
Judges described the bedding, which is manufactured from carefully selected white wood, as highly rated by customers, virtually dust-free, economical and easy to muck out.
Justin Dampney, Eco ComfyBed’s Business Development Manager, received the award during a ceremony at the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham.
“This is a huge feather in our cap and we’re absolutely elated,” he said.
The award success came as one of the UK’s most successful trainers announced she has switched to using Eco ComfyBed for her 100-strong stable of horses.
Venitia Williams is only the second female trainer next to Jenny Pitman to win the Grand National after her most successful horse to date, Mon Mome, rode to victory in the 2009 race at odds of 100-1.
Based in Herefordshire, her stables use more than 50,000 bales of bedding a year which will now be supplied by the Parley-based firm.
Other Eco ComfyBed clients include the Metropolitan Police’s Mounted Branch which was founded in 1760 and now has more than 140 officers and 120 horses based at eight operational stables across London.
Both Eco ComfyBed, and sister product Eco ComfyRide, are made by Parley-based Eco Sustainable Solutions, one of the UK’s top organics recycling firms.
Eco ComfyBed breaks down into a workable compost litter is as little as 12 weeks and is accredited by the Organic Farmers & Growers Association.
